Mala Osojnica and Velika Osojnica are two wooded summits on the southern side of Lake Bled, and together they form the long ridge that rises directly from the water. The name comes from a Slovene word for the shady side of a slope, which fits, because the hill faces north and receives little direct sun. The ridge is covered with beech and spruce forest and is crossed by marked paths that start near the lake, and for many people it is the best place to see the whole scene of the lake, the island church and the castle from above.

Mala Osojnica, the lower of the two peaks at about 685 metres, is the more popular. A marked path climbs steeply through the forest from the lakeshore and reaches a lookout platform after an energetic walk of under an hour. From there the view is the classic one: the lake below with the church on its island, the cliff-top castle, the town and the long line of the Karavanke range beyond. Wooden benches at the top allow you to rest and take in the view, and the platform is a favourite spot for photographers at sunrise and in the late afternoon. The slope is steep, and the path can be slippery with leaves or after rain, so good shoes are useful.

Velika Osojnica, the higher summit at about 756 metres, lies a further short walk along the ridge, and the route can be extended into a longer circuit by continuing along the wooded ridge. The summit is less open than the lower lookout, but it gives a sense of being above the lake and the surrounding hills, and the quiet of the forest is a contrast with the busy lake shore. The walk is best done in the cooler hours of the day, because the climb is steep and the forest, while shady, can be humid in summer.

The two peaks are covered separately from the other viewpoints around the lake, Ojstrica and Straža, but they can be combined into a day of walking. Bled Castle and the Lake Loop Walk offer easier alternatives, while Fijaker Rides and Swimming Spots round out the offer for those who prefer the shore. The paths are open throughout the year, though winter ice may make the climb difficult. Take water, because there are no facilities along the ridge.
