Radenci

Radenci lies on the fertile plain of northeastern Slovenia, between the Mura River and the vineyard hills of the Radgona-Kapela area. Its identity has long been shaped by its mineral springs. The discovery and use of the springs in the nineteenth century turned Radenci into one of the country’s best-known spa destinations, drawing visitors from across the Habsburg lands and Central Europe to its baths and wellness centres. The Radenci Health Resort remains the town’s main attraction, with thermal pools, saunas, massages and medical treatments aimed at relaxation and well-being. The mineral water, rich in carbon dioxide and minerals, is bottled and drunk throughout Slovenia and beyond, and Radenci’s mineral water, famous for its three hearts label, is one of the most recognisable brands in the country.

Families will enjoy Sikalu ZOO, the small mini zoo with native and exotic animals, playgrounds and picnic areas. The best time to visit is early July to mid-August for hot-weather activities, while May, June and September offer pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. Spring and autumn are good for cycling, hiking and enjoying the region’s food and wellness offerings.

Visitors who arrive without a car will find the town easy to enjoy: the spa, the park, the wine fountain and the zoo are all within walking distance of each other, and the cycling routes begin at the edge of the park. In the evenings, terraces serve local wine and Prekmurje dishes, and there is often live music in summer, which gives the town a relaxed holiday atmosphere that suits older travellers and families alike.
