Slap Kozjak
15m waterfall in a limestone gorge, Triglav NP
Slap Kozjak, located just north of Kobarid in Slovenia’s Soča Valley, is one of the country’s most enchanting waterfalls. Nestled within Triglav National Park and the Julian Alps, the 15-meter-high cascade tumbles into a serene green pool, surrounded by tall limestone walls that create a natural rocky amphitheater. The setting is both dramatic and tranquil, making it a favorite destination for nature lovers and photographers.
The hike to Slap Kozjak is accessible and rewarding, covering about 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) round trip with a gentle elevation gain. The well-marked trail begins near Kamp Koren or Kamp Lazar and leads hikers along the turquoise Soča River, across wooden bridges, and through lush forest. Along the way, visitors are treated to scenic views of the river and the surrounding mountains.
An entrance fee of 5 euros is collected at a station along the trail (cash preferred), and parking is available nearby for 1.50 euros per hour. The waterfall is open to visitors from early April to the end of October, with extended hours during the summer months. While swimming is not permitted in the pool beneath the waterfall, the cool mist and shaded gorge offer a refreshing retreat on hot days.
Slap Kozjak is a protected natural site, and visitors are encouraged to respect the environment and enjoy the peaceful beauty of this hidden gem in the Soča Valley.
