Single Trail Park Jamnica

Single Trail Park Jamnica is a mountain biking area in the hills of Koroška, the Carinthian region of northern Slovenia, close to the town of Prevalje and the Austrian border. The landscape here is one of rounded, forested ridges, farms scattered along the slopes and small towns in the valleys, set within the area of the UNESCO Global Geopark of Karavanke/Karawanken, which spans both sides of the border and protects the geology and mining heritage of the mountains. The park uses these slopes for a network of purpose-built single trails, meaning narrow, winding tracks designed for one rider at a time.

A single trail park is a different experience from an ordinary hill track. The trails are built to flow, with banked corners, small jumps and sections that follow the contours of the slope, and they are graded to show their difficulty so riders can choose what suits them. Park Jamnica – Mountain-biking Park Near Prevalje is the name often given to the site, and the trails are designed for all-mountain and enduro riding, meaning bikes with good suspension that can both climb and descend. Nearby, the Štrekna Cycle Path follows the course of an old railway through tunnels, including the Štrekna Railway Tunnel, and is an easy ride, with a descent near Mislinja that suits families. Underground biking at Mt. Peca and the Mining Museum offers a very different experience, riding through old mine galleries in the mountain. The UNESCO Global Geopark of Karavanke/Karawanken has trails and information points explaining the geology, and the Ribniška Koča mountain hut gives a place to stop for a meal. Perger's Honey Heaven is a local honey producer worth a visit, and the Jezerski Vrh Memorial to Fallen Mountaineers recalls the mountain history of the area.

Local hospitality is part of the appeal. Farms and inns in Koroška serve regional dishes, and the pace of life is relaxed. Check the operating season, since many bike parks are open from spring to autumn and depend on weather, and ask about bike rental and guided rides if you do not have your own equipment.

The park suits mountain bikers of intermediate level and above, groups of friends and families with confident teenagers. Late spring and early autumn offer the best trail conditions. Beyond the trails, the area has a good deal to offer. One day is enough for a first taste, and a weekend lets you ride more of the network.
