Ribnik Zreče

Zreče is a small town at the foot of the Pohorje hills in northeastern Slovenia, best known for its thermal spa and for being a gateway to the high plateau of Rogla. On its edge lies a pond, the Ribnik Zreče, a modest body of water that is a local recreational area and a place for quiet time outdoors. Brinjeva Gora, a hilltop village with a well-known pilgrimage church, is within easy reach by car and gives wide views over the surrounding countryside. For food, Gostilna Smogavc is one of the local inns where you can sample regional dishes. Pohorje's hiking trails, forests and the Rogla plateau lie further up the slope.

It is free to visit, and it is generally open throughout the year, though winter conditions can make paths slippery. The pond suits families, walkers and people who value quiet. Allow half an hour to an hour, and combine it with a spa visit or a hike. While it is a quiet place, it is one of the small pleasures of Zreče, and a reminder of Slovenia’s gentle rural landscape.
