Lendava Castle Museum and Gallery
Medieval castle with ethnological and art exhibits
Lendava Castle Museum and Gallery is a cultural gem perched on a hill above the town of Lendava in northeastern Slovenia. This medieval fortress, with its commanding views over the Mura River plain and the Hungarian border, now serves as a vibrant museum and gallery space managed by the Galerija-Muzej Lendava (GML) institution. The castle’s storied halls are home to a diverse array of exhibitions, ranging from ethnological collections and folk textile culture to contemporary bronze sculptures and rotating art shows.
Visitors can explore permanent displays that highlight the region’s multicultural heritage, including artifacts from local Hungarian, Slovenian, and Jewish communities. The museum also showcases the rich tradition of folk crafts and textiles, offering insight into the everyday life and artistry of the area’s past inhabitants. The gallery’s upper floors often feature temporary exhibitions by Slovenian and international artists, making each visit a new experience.
Lendava Castle is open year-round, with extended hours in the summer (March to October: Monday–Friday 8 am–6 pm, Saturday–Sunday 10 am–6 pm) and shorter hours in winter (November to February: Monday–Friday 8 am–4 pm, Saturday 10 am–2 pm). The museum is closed on certain holidays. Admission fees and details about current exhibitions are available on the official website.
