Beekeeping Education Centre of Gorenjska
Beekeeping heritage and live apiary in Lesce
The Beekeeping Education Centre of Gorenjska in Lesce is a vibrant destination for anyone curious about Slovenia’s celebrated beekeeping tradition. Located in the heart of Gorenjska, this modern center blends hands-on learning with a deep respect for the country’s rich apicultural heritage. Visitors are welcomed into a world where bees, honey, and the craft of beekeeping take center stage.
A highlight of the centre is its traditional Slovenian apiary, where you can observe bees at work in their natural environment, especially during the warmer months. The observation hive offers a close-up look at the fascinating life inside a beehive, while the honey bottling and honeycomb production facilities showcase the journey from hive to jar. Guided tours, available every Wednesday from May onwards, provide insight into both historical and modern beekeeping practices.
Guests can sample a variety of honeys during tastings, browse the well-stocked Beeshop for local products, and relax at the onsite BeeJoy café. The centre also features a seminar room for workshops and lectures, accommodating up to 100 people, making it a hub for both beekeepers and visitors. A carved statue of St. Ambrose, the patron saint of bees, adds a touch of tradition to the welcoming atmosphere.
Open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM, the Beekeeping Education Centre of Gorenjska is a must-visit for families, food lovers, and anyone interested in the vital role of bees in Slovenian culture and the natural world.
