Slap Savica Waterfall
78m dual-cascade waterfall above Lake Bohinj
Slap Savica Waterfall, or Savica Waterfall, is one of Slovenia’s most iconic natural attractions, nestled at the western end of Lake Bohinj within Triglav National Park. Famous for its distinctive “A” shape, the waterfall plunges 78 meters into a striking emerald-green pool, creating a scene that draws visitors from across the country and beyond. The falls are especially impressive in spring and late summer, when melting snow from the Julian Alps feeds the Savica’s powerful flow.
To reach the waterfall, visitors follow a well-maintained, family-friendly trail that winds through forested slopes above the village of Ukanc. The walk covers about 2 kilometers round trip, with a moderate 70-meter elevation gain and a series of steps—so it’s best to leave strollers behind. The journey typically takes less than an hour, making it accessible for most hikers.
At the entrance, there is a parking area (about €5 for half a day) and the Koča pri Savici mountain hut, where you can enjoy a meal or refreshments before or after your visit. Admission to the waterfall is €4 for adults and €2 for children. The site is steeped in local folklore, featuring in tales of love and legend, and marks the source of the Sava Bohinjka, Slovenia’s longest river. For a quieter experience, plan your visit early or late in the day, and enjoy the tranquil beauty of this celebrated Bohinj landmark.
