Kozmus Beekeeping Farm
Family-run Slovenian apiary with diverse honey types
Kozmus Beekeeping Farm in Podčetrtek is a delightful destination for anyone curious about the world of bees and the art of Slovenian apiculture. Nestled in the rolling hills and unspoiled landscapes of eastern Slovenia, this family-run farm has been in operation since 1994 and is home to around 50 thriving bee colonies. Visitors are welcomed by Dr. Peter Kozmus, a leading figure in Slovenian beekeeping, who shares his passion and expertise with guests of all ages.
A guided visit to the farm offers a hands-on introduction to beekeeping technology, queen breeding, and honey extraction. You’ll learn about the Carniolan grey honeybee—an endangered species native to Slovenia—and discover the vital role bees play in the ecosystem. The farm features traditional beehives, a hotel for solitary bees, and a herbal garden filled with honey-yielding plants, all designed to showcase the harmonious relationship between humans and nature.
Tastings are a highlight, with a variety of honeys on offer—forest, flower, acacia, chestnut, and linden—paired with spelt bread and herbal teas. The farm also produces gift boxes and bee-related products, making it easy to take a sweet souvenir home. Visits operate by prior arrangement, ensuring a personal and informative experience.
Kozmus Beekeeping Farm is not just about honey; it’s a celebration of Slovenian beekeeping heritage and the importance of pollinators, making it a memorable stop for families, nature lovers, and anyone interested in sustainable living.
