Fovšaritnica Museum House

The Fovšaritnica Museum House in Kropa offers visitors a rare glimpse into the daily life of ironworking families in one of Slovenia’s most historically significant metalworking villages. This well-preserved house, accessible by prior arrangement, stands as a testament to the communal living conditions that once defined Kropa’s bustling iron industry. The name “Fovšaritnica” comes from the Slovenian word “fovšija,” meaning envy—a nod to the crowded quarters and the complex relationships among the many families who lived and worked under one roof.

Inside, the museum retains its original floorplan, with five distinct living areas that once accommodated up to 72 people at the same time. The upper floors are filled with ethnological artifacts, period furnishings, and everyday objects that illustrate the resourcefulness and resilience of Kropa’s blacksmiths and their families. Visitors can imagine the rhythm of life during the ironworks era, from shared meals to the sounds of hammers echoing through the village.
