Church of Mary on the Rock

The Church of Mary on the Rock, Cerkev Marije na Skalci in Slovene, stands above the town of Idrija in western Slovenia, on a rocky height that gives it a commanding position over the narrow valley. Idrija is a town defined by its landscape. It lies in a steep-sided basin where the Idrijca runs through, and the surrounding hills rise high on every side, so any building on a height is visible from the streets below.
