Župančič Museum

Vinica is a village in Bela Krajina, the White Carniola, in the far south of Slovenia close to the Kolpa river and the Croatian border, and it is best known as the birthplace of Oton Župančič, one of the most important Slovenian poets. Župančič was born here in 1878 and died in Ljubljana in 1949, and his work belongs to the circle of the Slovenian Moderna, the modernist movement around the turn of the twentieth century that gave the language a new poetic voice. Some of his lines are quoted by Slovenes to this day.
