Logarska Dolina is one of the most popular valleys in the Slovenian Alps, and a visit is easier and more rewarding if you start at the Visitor Center. It stands near the entrance of the valley, within the Logar Valley Landscape Park, and it acts as the information hub for people planning to walk, cycle or simply enjoy the scenery. The park protects a long glacial valley in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, with meadows, forests, farms and waterfalls, and it works to balance tourism with the needs of the landscape and of the people who live there. The centre is where that approach is explained in practice.

The staff can help with the practical side of a visit. Maps of the valley and its trails are available, including the well-known educational trail through the Logar Valley, which runs for several kilometres along the valley floor and introduces the plants, animals, geology and farming heritage along the way, and routes for cyclists and for higher mountain walks. Staff can tell you about current weather and trail conditions, including snow and any closures, and about safety in the mountains, which is essential before heading up to the higher routes. They can also explain how access to the valley works. Vehicle traffic is limited to protect the quiet and the environment, a fee is charged for cars, and the park encourages sustainable mobility, including shuttle services and bicycles, so ask about the current arrangements. Information about accommodation, farm visits and local food is also available.

Exhibitions and information panels in the centre describe the natural and cultural heritage of the valley. They explain how the glacier carved the landscape, why the area is part of the Natura 2000 network, which animals and plants live here, from alpine flowers to chamois and eagles, and how the traditional farms of the valley, among them Logar and Podbrežnik, were built and worked. The displays make the walk outside more meaningful, because you recognise the meadows, barns and wooden structures as part of a living system. Staff are usually glad to answer questions and help with planning, and entry to the centre is generally free. Opening hours depend on the season, so check beforehand if you are travelling in winter or late in the year.

From the centre you can set out to a number of places. The Logarska Dolina Waterfalls and the Alpine Meadow are within easy reach, the Savinja River rises at the head of the valley, Mount Rinka rises above the Rinka waterfall, and the Chapel of Christ the King offers a quiet stop. The wider Kamnik-Savinja Alps, the Solčava Pastoral Landscape and St. Catherine's Church (Cerkev sv. Katarine) in Solčava add culture and views, and Logarska Dolina Nature Park describes the valley as a whole. The valley has received the Slovenia Green Park label.

It suits first-time visitors, families and walkers. Call in before you set out. Ask about the Logar Valley Educational Trail. For the park’s sake, the Visitor Center encourages shuttle and bike use, and Park’s rules are simple.
