Crystal Valley

Crystal Valley is a themed nature and wellness park at Šmarješke Toplice, a spa village in Lower Carniola, a few kilometres from Novo mesto. The idea behind the park is to combine a walk in a pleasant landscape with the symbolism of crystals and gemstones, which many visitors associate with calm, energy and well-being. The healing powers attributed to crystals are a matter of belief and not of science, but the setting and the way it is arranged make for a quiet, thoughtful outing in any case, and the park is a welcome addition to a spa stay.

The park is laid out as a path with several stations. A sensory trail invites visitors to walk barefoot over different natural materials and to listen to the sounds of water and wind, a simple way to slow down and pay attention to the surroundings. A small spring, known as the Spring of Love, offers a place to cool the feet in clear water, and a circle dedicated to the five elements, earth, water, fire, air and ether, is meant as a place for reflection and relaxation. Crystals are displayed along the route, and the layout is built to guide visitors through a sequence of calm spaces rather than to deliver information.

Families have not been forgotten. There is a play area where children can dig in a sandbox for their own small crystals, which makes the visit lively and easy for young ones. A shop sells stones, jewellery and gifts, and it is a natural place to pick up a souvenir.

The surrounding area is green and gentle, with vineyards, meadows and forest, typical of Lower Carniola. The village is known for its thermal spa, and other places of interest nearby include the House of Living Heritage, the local wine fountain that pours the light red wine Cviček, the Radulja Gorge and the Klevevž hot spring. Cviček is the traditional wine of the region, a light, dry, low-alcohol red blended from several grape varieties, and trying a glass is part of any visit to Dolenjska.

The park suits families, couples looking for a restful hour, spa guests and anyone curious about the crystal theme. It is easy to combine with a swim at the spa, a walk through the vineyards or a visit to Novo mesto.
