Congress Square

Congress Square, known locally as Kongresni trg, serves as a central hub for cultural and social life in Ljubljana. Originally redesigned in 1821 to host the Congress of the Holy Alliance, the square retains its historical significance while functioning as a lively urban space for locals and visitors alike. The area is framed by impressive architecture, including the neoclassical Casino building on the northern side and the historic University building, formerly the Provincial Palace, on the southern side. Nearby, visitors can find the Slovenian Philharmonic Hall and the Ursuline Church of the Holy Trinity, which adds to the square’s elegant atmosphere.

At the heart of the square lies Zvezda Park, a green oasis featuring several notable monuments. These include a replica of the gilded bronze statue of the Emonan patrician, a decorative anchor monument, and a replica of the Holy Trinity Column. A music pavilion also stands within the park, contributing to the area’s cultural vibrancy.
