Podčetrtek Deer Reserve, locally known as Jelenov Greben, offers visitors a chance to experience wildlife up close in the rolling hills just 4.5 kilometers from the Terme Olimia resort. Established in 1989, the reserve began when deer were introduced from Brijon, Croatia, and has since grown into a popular destination for families and nature enthusiasts. Today, around 200 deer and moufflons roam freely across the eight-hectare estate, and the animals are accustomed to human presence, making it easy for visitors to observe and feed them.
The reserve is open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, including weekends and holidays, with free entry and no reservation required. Deer food is available for purchase on-site for a small fee, allowing guests to hand-feed the animals—a highlight for many, especially children. The reserve also features a playground, a climbing wall, a restaurant, a coffee shop, and a shop selling homemade products.
Visitors can learn about the deer’s life cycle, such as their antler shedding in spring and fawn births in late May or June. During these sensitive periods, guests are asked to respect the animals’ space, particularly around mothers and their young. Jelenov Greben combines natural beauty, educational opportunities, and family-friendly facilities, making it a memorable stop in the Podčetrtek area.
