**NEW 3D Tours**
FOOD & DRINK

As in many other aspects food and drink in Slovenia are influenced by neighbouring countries - however Slovenia still maintains it's own strong identity with regard to cuisine. Although the majority of restaurants offer more international menus, there are also numerous restaurants which still focus mainly on traditional Slovene delicacies while others tend to have specials menus which reflect more local fare.

Meat tends to feature heavily in Slovene menus with puran (turkey), govedina (beef) and chevaline (horse) being the most common offers.

SOME TRADITIONAL LOCAL FOODS

A burek is a traditional Slovene lunch snack - it is a pastry filled with cheese (sirov), meat (meso), apple (jabolčni) or pizza i.e. cheese and tomato (pizze). You'll find these in cafes and street kiosks - they are filling, but sometimes greasy.

Gibanica originates from the Prekmurje region of Slovenia and is a layered dessert pie stuffed with apple, walnut, poppy seeds and cottage cheese.
Kremna Rezina is a cream and custard slice encased top and bottom by layers of flaky pastry. Particularly delicious from the Park Hotel in Bled - naughty but nice!
OTHER INFLUENCES

Influences from Austria include zavitek (strudel) and klobasa (spicy sausage), while the Hungarian influence tends to be seen in the form of golaž (goulash), while the abundance of pizza/pasta restaurants are a clear indication of the Italian influence.

APERITIFS

Locally made viljemovka (pear brandy), slivovka (plum brandy) and Champagne are the most common aperitifs on offer in restaurants. All are equally good and a perfect start to a meal.
