COASTLINE
Slovenia's relatively short stretch of Adriatic coastline spans only 47km between the Gulf of Trieste and the coast of Croatia. It is a varied and rugged coastline, the highlight of which is the beautifully colourful Piran.
Piran
Piran is a small but beautiful harbour town on a narrow peninsula jutting out into the Adriatic. It's streets are a maze of tightly-packed Venetian-inspired architecture and archways. Take a stroll through the cobbled backstreets which will eventually lead you up to the bell tower from where you'll find a spectacular view over the town and harbour. On a clear day you'll also be able to see the Italian coast in the distance.

| Places to stay in Piran are limited to a few hotels and some private accommodation. |
Portorož
Two km's south of Piran, you will find Portorož which is Slovenia's largest beach resort, crammed with large seafront hotels and casinos. The long stretch of mostly sandy beach is well looked after and there are plenty of activities for those seeking a livelier destination. |
Piran and Portorož are neighbours on the Slovene coastline and as they are only two km's apart, if you're on a tight schedule you could easiliy take in both in a day.
Koper
Koper is a working port town with a predominantly industrial feel on the outskirts and is by far the largest town on the Slovene coast. On closer inspection though, you'll find a well-preserved mediaeval centre with picturesque squares and alleyways. Unsurprisingly as this town is only 20km from Trieste, the Italian influence abounds.
